First of all, if you don't have the supported player, you need to get one.
We recommend to use Winamp3 (on Windows), and XMMS (on Linux), as for now
they seem to be the most advanced players. Click player links to the right
of this page to reach player home directory.
Thus, to run OSS/3D, you will need to have at least one of the following
players:
- Winamp 2, 3 or 5
- MusicMatch Jukebox
- Sonique Player
- Windows Media Player 9
- Foobar2000
- JetAudio
- Media Jukebox*
- XMMS (for Linux)
* manual plugin installation
If you have multiple players installed at once, plugin will be configured
for all players found on your system. If plugin is unable to find your player,
try installing plugin manually by choosing right file from the installation
directory and installing it manually, according to player documentation.
OSS/3D currently runs on the following operating systems:
- Windows XP
- Windows 2000
- Linux-x86 (OSS/3D v5.5, release 7.0 will come later)
OSS/3D R7 is not tested for Windows 98 and Windows ME. Demo will not
run on those systems, while registered OSS3D R6 users will be able to run
OSS/3D R7 upgrade on those systems.
We are working hard to deliver OSS/3D release 7.0 for Linux and other platforms.
If you have reached this site, then probably your hardware is sufficient
to run OSS/3D. No special hardware is required. If your system has Celeron,
PentiumII, PentiumIII, Pentium4, AMD Athlon or Duron processor - then
OSS/3D should run without problems, provided that the system complies with
the software requirements (see above).
Surely, you should have a soundcard installed. Here
is the full list of what you may require:
- Processor: Celeron, PentiumII, or any better one
- RAM: 64Mb or more
- Soundcard: 16bit stereo soundcard, or better
- Two (or more) speakers, or headphones
If you are not sure about your hardware configuration, just
download plugin version for Windows, and
check whether does it install or not.
FOR LINUX USERS:You would probably like to check our
mainstream product OSS (Open Sound System),
which provides the best support for most existing soundcards. Find more details
at OSS home page.
